2013-11-08 11:13

Caohejing International Incubation Center was put into operation on December 21, becoming the park's important platform for innovation.

The center consists of a nursery for hi-tech firms, innovation parks for university graduates and returned overseas students, an incubator for overseas enterprises and an accelerator for technology firms, said a manager from the international incubation center.

Present at the operation ceremony were government officials at the central, city and district levels, senior managers from Caohejing Hi-Tech Park Development Corporation and representatives from companies.
Yuan Jianzhong, chairman of Hatch Association for Asian Enterprises, issued an honorary certificate for 2010 Asian Best Enterprise Incubators, top prize in 2010 for Asian enterprise incubator, to Caohejing Technology Incubation Center.

``The center's operation is a stimulus to the park's economic expansion,'' said Da Runiu, deputy general manager of Caohejing Hi-Tech Park Development Corporation.

Da said Caohejing has gone through three ``decades,'' with the first decade focusing on industrial development, the second on functional development and the third on innovative economy.

``We aim to attract more innovative enterprises to the park by opening the center,'' he said.

Han Baofu, deputy chief engineer of Caohejing Hi-Tech Park Development Corporation and general manager of the innovation center, made a keynote speech on developing new industries at the ceremony.

``The key to developing innovative economy lies in having a large number of hi-tech enterprises with innovation capability,'' said Han, adding that the center will become an incubation base for technology enterprises.

``We will provide various services for them in terms of policy guidance, financing, training and public platforms,'' he said.

Caohejing has undergone five stages in developing the incubation industry since 1989, which include a farmhouse incubator, a classic incubator, an international incubator, a modern incubator and a specialized incubator.

``Now it is marching towards a stage of developing brand incubators,'' he said.

Caohejing Innovation Center which has been entrusted to manage the International Incubation Center is China's first incubator which has passed ISO authentication.

The incubation center, located at the intersection of Guiping Road and Caobao Road, is based in a 27-storey modern office building occupying an area of 52,000 square meters.

It holds a 2,000-square-meter nursery for hi-tech enterprises, a 3,000-square-meter innovation park for university graduates, a 3,000-square-meter innovation center for returned overseas students, a 10,000-square-meter international and specialized incubator and a 26,000-square-meter business accelerator.

More than 130 hi-tech firms have moved into the center with 80 per cent involving information technology.

Caohejing has signed a framework agreement with Shanghai Branch of Bank of Communications and Shanghai Innovation and Investment Corporation (SIIC) to establish a financing platform.

SIIC will inject 12.5 million yuan into the financing platform, which has combined funds of 125 million yuan, to solve the funds shortage problem for small and medium-sized hi-tech firms, said an SIIC senior manager.
